Bartłomiej Gucma
I Stole My First Painting

The works of Bartłomiej Gucma are rich in symbolism and reflections on society, power, and individual identity. In his paintings, the artist blends elements of surrealism with everyday life, creating a strikingly original balance between reality and imagination. His art is fresh, authentic, and full of energy, and his path to creativity—despite life’s twists and turns—is both unique and inspiring.

In one of the pieces featured in the exhibition, Gucma created a portrait of a woman based on her unsent correspondence, which he discovered in the attic of an old tenement building. These letters, full of personal words and unspoken nuances, served as inspiration for capturing the emotions and mysteries embedded in the notes. Recognizing the uniqueness of this unfinished and unread story, the artist sought to recreate its essence on canvas, revealing intimate, hidden fragments of life.

Through his work, Bartłomiej Gucma invites viewers into his inner world—expressing his reality more fully by tracing the meanders of his own emotions with brush and line.
